Meet Allison

Allison grew up in her mother’s dance studio, so dance has always been an important part of her life. She started teaching fitness classes about 25 years ago, from cardio-dance, cardio-kickboxing and step aerobics, to Pilates mat and equipment classes. After taking a few years off of teaching, she missed it so much that she had to start up again. She’s so happy to be back sharing the joy of movement with others!

When she’s not in the studio, she is a math professor at Williams College and owns a real estate brokerage and renovation business with her partner Seth.

How did you discover your passion for movement?

My mom's dance studio.

How has your personal practice supported your self-discovery and healing?

I didn't realize how much I missed dancing until I came back after a couple years off. No matter how badly the day is going, or how stressful things are, I feel so much better after a great class.

What is the most inspiring thing about teaching?

Getting people moving and giving their brains something to think about other than the craziness of the world we live in right now is a really special thing.

What do you want people to know about your teaching style and classes?

I want people to feel comfortable just showing up for themselves and moving. It doesn't matter if you get all the steps right or how you look, it's all about how you feel.

What do you love about Berkshire Yoga Dance & Fitness?

It's such a warm and welcoming community!

Tell us a little more about yourself or what are you up to when you're not in the studio?

I have always liked to have a lot going on. I like using both parts of my brain - the analytical problem solving skills with math and construction, but also the creativity that comes with teaching (both math and dance). I have a 15 year old son that I love to spend time with. I love traveling, with him and my partner, and hope to do a lot more in the years ahead.

Flashback to your childhood. What do you want to be when you grow up?

Almost every job I've ever has involved teaching. Fitness classes, math classes, but I even see my role in real estate and construction as teaching others about their houses and what home means to them.
