Meet Emma

Emma grew up in the Berkshires and has been practicing yoga for 4 years. Growing up as a dancer, she began teaching barre and has always valued health and wellness. This past summer she became certified at kripalu to teach yoga and an integrative health coach to expand her knowledge for her passions.

How did you discover your passion for movement?

She discovered her passion for yoga through continuous practice connecting movements to breath and meditation. In a very chaotic world, she found the practice of yoga to ground her and bring her a greater sense of intuition, acceptance, and peace throughout her life.

What is the most inspiring thing about teaching students at BYDF?

Teaching inspires Emma to allow her students to check in with their intentions and feel closer to themselves without judgment. Helping students align to their breath and body and have moments of full presence and more clarity towards their intuition is such a beautiful breakthrough for many. BYDF is Emma’s favorite studio because many teachers are inspired by the Kripalu style which allows students to go inward and move with intention and purpose. The studio itself has an immaculate vibe and the community is so open and friendly with a mix of experience.

Flashback to your childhood. What do you want to be when you grow up?

When Emma was a kid, she wanted to be some type of performer. She loves to entertain and lead others to feel more confident and comfortable.

How has your personal movement practice helped develop your sense of self and pave the way for self-discovery and healing?

After her time at Kripalu, the meaning of yoga expanded into something more than just a work out, but a continuous practice that connected her to herself, nature, and others with more compassion, mindfulness, and presence. Life can become very chaotic and noisy juggling work, friendships, and wellness and yoga became a way for her to live presently with acceptance.

What do you want people to know about your teaching style and classes at BYDF?

Emma brings chill and alternative music, breath work, cues that bring you into your body, and awareness of your senses to help students feel present and grounded. She offers a challenging flow that allows students to push through adversity while remaining connected to breath.

Tell us a little more about yourself or what are you up to when you're not in the studio?

When Emma is not at the studio, you can find her lifting weights at the gym, biking, hiking, skiing, or kayaking. She loves to be outside and she can hardly go a day without moving her body!
