Meet Justine

Justine effortlessly transmits yoga wisdom. While serving as a community health agent in the Peace Corps in 2007, she had the opportunity to informally teach yoga to Nigeriens in French and Hausa. Upon return to the US, she earned her certification and began working professionally. She has since taught in various studio settings as well as specialized settings including elementary schools, an insurance agency, and an organization for intentional recovery from the hardships of life.

Born and raised in Pittsfield, Justine attended a summer circus camp at Berkshire Community College where she performed balances, drops, and hangs on the trapeze. With a healthy appetite for spandex and tah-dah! her parents supported and encouraged her study of dance, yoga, theatre and science.

Her studies culminated (but did not stop) when she earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy which allowed her to return to BCC as an instructor in Anatomy and Physiology. Now, Justine opens her heart to the BYDF community to contribute to your safe inquiry of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual experiences life generously offers. Justine gives deep thanks to all who have created this moment and looks forward to working for you.

How did you discover your passion for movement?

Attending yoga class in college- I started teaching what I was learning in the dorm because I loved it so much .

What is the most inspiring thing about teaching students at BYDF?

Having students trust me.

Flashback to your childhood. What do you want to be when you grow up?

A lawyer or an actress.

How has your personal movement practice helped develop your sense of self and pave the way for self-discovery and healing?

The bio mechanical insight I gain through yoga helps me to balance my physical body. The mental, emotional and spiritual insight I gain through yoga practice assists in the same manner for my subtle bodies.

What do you want people to know about your teaching style and classes at BYDF?

It is a synthesis of the most transformative and helpful teaching I have learned over the years.

Tell us a little more about yourself or what are you up to when you're not in the studio?

I enjoy being with my family and friends, traveling, eating good food and helping patients at the hospital. I am currently working towards a specialist certification in needling and spinal manipulation.
