Meet Sara

Sara found yoga when she was feeling really lost in life. Having played competitive sports her entire life, she craved a movement practice and sense of community that yoga was able to provide. It has fostered physical strength & flexibility, stillness in her overactive mind, & a reconnection with her soul. Over the past 10 years, her practice has helped her heal stress, anxiety, depression, addiction, chronic health issues, & her relationship with her body. Sara grew up in Pittsfield and spent 14 years living in Boston before moving back to the area in 2020. In 2019, she completed her 200 hour yoga teacher training at the Essence of Yoga School in Boston, MA. She is also a pharmacist, Integrative Health Practitioner & Reiki Healer who is passionate about helping others heal on all levels! Her classes offer a warm & welcoming environment & all-levels experience. By sharing this practice, she hopes to inspire others to find their light through the transformative process that is available to us all.

How did you discover your passion for movement?

My friend invited me to a yoga class during college in Boston over 10 years ago and I've been hooked ever since! I grew up playing competitive sports and craved a movement practice & a sense of community that yoga was able to provide.

What is the most inspiring thing about teaching students at BYDF?

I love that the students at BYDF show up for themselves each class and take exactly what they need - whether its to challenge themselves or slow down, rest, and restore!

Flashback to your childhood. What do you want to be when you grow up?

A professional soccer player.

How has your personal movement practice helped develop your sense of self and pave the way for self-discovery and healing?

My yoga practice is so much more than the physical posses and exercise - it has helped to calm my overactive mind, bring awareness to my thoughts and feelings, and allowed me to reconnect with my soul. Over the past 10 years, my practice has helped me heal & manage stress, anxiety, depression, addictive behaviors, and my relationship with my body.

What do you want people to know about your teaching style and classes at BYDF?

My flow & restore with reiki classes get your energy moving with a moderate flow, before calming your nervous system with longer held restorative poses during which I might offer a gentle hands on assist and healing reiki energy. My rise & shine vinyasa flow is designed to awaken your energy through creative movement inspired by an upbeat playlist, with options to challenge yourself or modify poses as needed.

Tell us a little more about yourself or what are you up to when you're not in the studio?

In addition to a yoga instructor, I am a pharmacist, Integrative Health Practitioner and Holy Fire Reiki Master. In my spare time, I love to hike with my husband & our dog Milo, hang out with our cats, tap into a creative project, & simply enjoy the beauty the Berkshires has to offer.
