Meet Tamara

Tamara has taught yoga for nearly 15 years and has been located in the Berkshires since 2017. As a trauma-sensitive teacher, she equips students with a variety of tools to help them build strength, resilience, and ease in both mind and body. While her background has been primarily in the Ashtanga and Iyengar traditions, Tamara continually evolves her teaching and practice through ongoing continuing education.

Tamara completed her 200-hour certification with Natasha Rizopoulos through YogaWorks, and her advanced 300-hour training with Jules Mitchell, with a focus on biomechanics, pain science, the science of stretching, and somatic movement. She is also certified in Applied Polyvagal Theory in Therapeutic Yoga. Tamara currently leads classes and workshops at Miraval Berkshires and through her online yoga studio, The Action Space. In 2025 she will begin a two-year Meditation Certification program with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield.

Her love of movement and interest in the body began at a young age with

training as a dancer and actor. Tamara holds an MFA in theatre and has worked as an actor in film, TV, and theatre in Canada and the US. Recently, she created, starred in, and produced a one-woman show called This Is It through her production company, MetaGirl Productions, which has been performed in the Berkshires, Boston, and NYC.

How did you discover your passion for movement?

I've been interested in movement since I started dancing at a young age. My interest in yoga developed as I became more interested in how to effect positive change in my mind as well as my body.

What is the most inspiring thing about teaching students at BYDF?

Watching people do things they didn't think they could do. Being able to offer something that has an impact on people's wellbeing and their connection to their bodies.

Flashback to your childhood. What do you want to be when you grow up?

Relaxed and at ease with myself.

How has your personal movement practice helped develop your sense of self and pave the way for self-discovery and healing?

My movement practice increase my awareness and opened the door to meditation. These practice have helped me build a greater capacity to be with difficult thoughts/feelings/sensations as well as the awareness that we are bigger than our thoughts/feelings/sensations.

What do you want people to know about your teaching style and classes at BYDF?

I'm detail-oriented. I think the detail can be a useful tool to help anchor and calm the mind.

Tell us a little more about yourself or what are you up to when you're not in the studio?

I'm an actor and a theatre-maker. I love to hike. I'm trying to get out more to engage with all the activities the Berkshires has to offer. I also have a 12 year old for whom I'm trying to be very present for at this stage in her development.
